Journey - Red 13 Old and New by ChristopherPayne Journey - Red 13 Old and New by ChristopherPayne
Back in 2003 I did the cover artwork for Journey's Red 13 CD/EP that they put out on their own label. I was pretty much a rookie back then. It was my first piece I ever sold, and you can imagine how thrilled I was that it was the band Journey!

Well, I always wished I cold go back and improve it, cause I had a lot to learn back then (still do, I suppose...haha). SO I finally decided to update it, just for fun...and thought it would be a good time to finally upload it to DA.

SO here it is...left side is the official original....right side is upated new. Hope you enjoyed it.....have a great day!

While I like the new design, I still think the original one is better. I like the softness/fuzziness as compared to the more "vibrant" one. I really loved this line- up of Journey as much as the Original one, and the Steve Perry Line - up. I really love your work and I've seen your Scarabpalooza site! I love your version of Raised on Radio!

YOU were the one who did the cover? COOL! I like the update a lot. Think i like the starburts light on the original better though.

Thank you very much...and yes, I'm the one that did the cover. Trust me, I still have to pinch myself. It definitely turned into a wonderful opportunity, as I have been able to use this as an avenue to acquire more professional work.

Thank you also for the nice comments on my other artworks :)

I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone for their great comments! Yeah, I DO feel like one heckuva lucky/blessed guy! I have always been a big fan of Neal Schon and Journey...and not only was this my first professionally sold piece, it was personally chosen by Neal himself for the cover...and I hear he went "apeshit" over it when he saw it...LOL. I couldn't be happier, and years later I still pinch myself, and am extremely grateful for such an amazing jump start from a band full of great guys (I can say that honestly!).

You are very welcome!
So did you actually get to meet them all?

Yep...and they're all really cool guys, too. First time I met them after I got the cover, they invite my (then) GF and I into their dressing room and just hung out shooting the breeze for an hour or two. I left with an autographed guitar, signed by them all. Well, more like I sort of floated out of there. Everytime I went to a show, they treated us really well and made sure we had passes and seats up front. I simply can't say good enough things about the band.
